FairShare is a digital platform that helps families organise, catalogue, and fairly distribute the belongings of a loved one's home. The service allows users to photograph and catalogue items, express preferences, and use our FairShare algorithm to suggest a fair distribution.
FairShare is a facilitation tool. We do not provide legal, financial, or estate administration advice. Our allocation results are suggestions to assist families in reaching agreement — they are not legally binding.
To use FairShare you must:
You are responsible for all activity that takes place under your account.
When you create an estate, you become the estate organiser. As organiser you are responsible for:
Family members who join an estate via an invite link agree to their preferences and name being visible to other estate members.
Free tier: New estates include up to 10 items at no charge. This allows families to trial the service before committing.
Estate unlock: To add more than 10 items and run the FairShare allocation, a one-time payment of £20 per estate is required. This unlocks the estate for all family members — there are no additional charges per family member.
Payment processing: Payments are processed securely by Stripe. We do not store your card details.
Refund policy: Due to the nature of digital services, we do not offer refunds once an estate has been unlocked and the allocation has been run. If you experience a technical issue that prevents you from using the service, please contact us at hello@thefairshareapp.com and we will assess your situation fairly.
Voucher codes: We may issue voucher codes from time to time that bypass payment. These are non-transferable and may be withdrawn at any time.
You retain ownership of any content you upload to FairShare, including photographs of items. By uploading content, you grant us a limited licence to store and display that content within the FairShare platform for the purpose of providing the service.
You must not upload content that:
We reserve the right to remove content that violates these terms.
Our allocation algorithm is designed to suggest a fair distribution of items based on the preferences expressed by family members. The algorithm takes into account preference scores, fairness balancing, and conflict resolution.
The algorithm's suggestions are not legally binding. Families may choose to accept, modify, or reject the suggested allocation. FairShare accepts no liability for disputes arising from the allocation results.
To the maximum extent permitted by law:
Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation.
You may delete your account at any time from the Profile screen. We may suspend or terminate your account if you breach these terms or if we believe your use of the service is harmful to others.
On termination, your access to the service will cease. Your data will be handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
We may update, modify, or discontinue any part of FairShare at any time. We will give reasonable notice of significant changes where possible.
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
We may update these terms from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes by email or via a notice in the app. Continued use of FairShare after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
