Who we are

FairShare is operated by Oliver Bolton trading as FairShare, a sole trader based in the United Kingdom.

What data we collect

When you use FairShare, we collect the following:

Account information: Your name and email address when you sign up.

Estate data: The names, descriptions, and photographs of items you add to an estate, as well as your preference selections (Love to Have, Would Like, Neutral, Someone Else, Donate to Charity).

Usage data: Information about how you use the app, including which features you access and when.

Payment data: If you purchase an estate unlock, your payment is processed by Stripe. We do not store your card details — these are handled entirely by Stripe and subject to their privacy policy.

Communications: If you contact us by email, we keep a record of that correspondence.

How we use your data

We use your data to:

• Provide and operate the FairShare service
• Run the FairShare allocation algorithm to distribute items fairly
• Send you emails related to your estate (invitations, reminders, allocation updates)
• Process payments via Stripe
• Improve and develop the app
• Comply with our legal obligations

We do not sell your data to third parties. We do not use your data for advertising purposes.

Who we share your data with

Other estate members: Your name and preference selections are visible to other members of any estate you join. This is fundamental to how FairShare works.

Supabase: We use Supabase to store your data securely. Supabase is our database and authentication provider. Data is stored in the EU (Stockholm, Sweden).

Stripe: We use Stripe to process payments. Stripe is PCI DSS compliant.

Formspree: If you sign up to our waitlist via our marketing page, your email is stored via Formspree.

We only share data with third parties where necessary to provide the service, and all third parties are required to handle your data securely.

How long we keep your data

We keep your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your personal data is deleted within 30 days. Estate data (items, preferences, allocation results) may be retained for up to 90 days after account deletion to allow other estate members to access records they are entitled to.

Your rights under UK GDPR

As a UK resident, you have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you
• Correct any inaccurate data
• Delete your data (right to erasure)
• Restrict how we process your data
• Object to processing
• Export your data in a portable format

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at hello@thefairshareapp.com. We will respond within 30 days.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk if you believe we have not handled your data correctly.

Cookies

FairShare uses only essential cookies to keep you logged in and to maintain your session. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. No cookie consent banner is required as we only use strictly necessary cookies.

Children

FairShare is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes by email or via a notice in the app. The date at the top of this page will always reflect the most recent version.
